The communal Gallery of Modern Art can be found in the Public Gardens of Cagliari. It houses exhibitions and works of art by Sardinian artists from 1900 and a collection of Italian Neo-Avant-Garde dating from the 1960s and 1970s. The city art gallery was built in 1700 and completely restored in 1828 by Colonel Carlo Boyl. Apart from the art collection and sculptures from Sardinia, it is also home to the city library and a historical archive.
