Alberto Burri (1915-95) was a prisoner of war in Texas in 1943. He turned to art to express the bloodshed he had witnessed, using whatever materials were at hand. When he returned to Italy he continued to develop his art using discarded materials and junk, most legendary his sacking soaked in red paint that resembled giant bandages and his pieces of twisted metal and charred wood. In later years he would explore colour and other materials. This collection exhibits many works from 1943 to 1983.
