The entrance leads to the crypt of the demolished church of San Nicolò. Here, the museum displays Roman and Umbrian remains, mostly tombstones, cinerary urns and inscriptions. A passage takes you beneath the Piazza del Comune, to the supposed Roman Forum (which was actually located in Piazza San Rufino) and to the stairs that lead from a terrace to the podium of the Minerva Temple. In front of the temple, according to the inscription, was once sculptures of Castor and Pollux similar to those found in Rome in front of the temple of Apollo.
