The Church of S. Domenico was constructed in 1254 by the architect Fra Nicolò Fortiguerra da Siena and was renovated in the 15th Century. The old building acts as the crypt to the new church that was built in 1953. Annexed to the church there is a beautiful late-Gothic cloister with cross vaults, one side of which was renovated in the Renaissance style between the 15th and the 16th Century. It was heavily damaged during WWII and rebuilt in 1954, thus the building today is modern enclosing the remains of the ancient church, which has become a crypt.
