Chiesa dei Cappuccini is situated on the eastern edge of Caltagirone. It houses a lovely altarpiece by Filippo Paladino which depicts the Virgin Hodegetria being carried on the shoulders of Basilian monks. The left side of the nave contains a Deposition by Fra’ Semplice da Verona. Adjacent to the church is an art gallery which exhibits paintings dating from the 16th Century up to the present day. You can access a crypt where there is an unusual crib scene and scenes from the life of Christ. These tableaux are illuminated and visitors are provided with a short commentary.
