The 14th Century charterhouse of San Giacomo was built by order of Count Giacomo Arcucci, the adviser to Joan I of Anjou – queen of Naples. It was enlarged in the 17th Century and given some Baroque touches. There are two cloisters, the larger having been constructed in the 15th Century, and the smaller, in the 14th Century. In its time the charterhouse has been a barracks, a gaol, and a military hospital. It is now home to a museum displaying Roman statues found on the floor of the Blue Grotto - and also a library and a school.
