The Basilica of San Abbondio was constructed in the 11th Century on the site of the Como’s first cathedral. The church was once the home of Benedictine monks and still bears their unmistakable presence. The Maestri Comacini is believed to be responsible for the building of the church at a time when they were influenced by Nordic art. The building is quite stark in its look compared to others they have built, but is a wonder inside.
