Arco Castle is reached via a scenic route that winds through the olive groves. Various archaeological findings show it was inhabited before the Middle Ages and was already fortified in Roman and Lombard days. It was built as a defence structure and first mentioned in documents of 1124. The castle was the residence of the family from which the city took its name, and later owned by the Scaligero family. It has been recently restored and is used for cultural events.
